About Me
Dr. Alan W. Brown is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon who has performed over 40,000 cataract and refractive procedures. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery, and the International Society of Cataract Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Brown began his medical career as a family physician before completing a second residency in ophthalmology in 1991, with surgical training at Greater Baltimore Medical Center and pathology training at Johns Hopkins University. He has been practicing ophthalmology in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Dr. Brown has designed over 25 medical devices to improve surgical outcomes for cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery, and he presents these innovations at national and international medical meetings. He has also pioneered a surgical illumination technique that enhances visibility during surgery while improving patient comfort.
