About Me
Dr. Abenet Michael is a glaucoma-focused ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for patients with cataracts and the full spectrum of primary and secondary glaucomas. His approach emphasizes patient-centered care—listening carefully, tailoring treatment to lifestyle and goals, and using the least invasive effective option whenever possible. He offers modern glaucoma solutions, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), glaucoma drainage devices, and combined cataract–glaucoma procedures, alongside ongoing medical and laser management.
Dr. Michael completed medical school at Tulane University, followed by an internship at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in New York City. He then completed a fellowship at the University of Illinois – Chicago, where he refined expertise in advanced glaucoma and complex cataract care. He also holds a Master of Science degree from Boston University. Patients appreciate his clear explanations and collaborative style when navigating long-term conditions such as glaucoma.
