About Me

Dr. Tamer Mahmoud is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Associated Retinal Consultants in southeastern Michigan. He specializes in vitreoretinal diseases, treating conditions such as macular holes, subretinal hemorrhage, epiretinal membranes, and myopic macular holes. He is known for developing advanced surgical techniques, including the first human autologous retinal transplantation and the injection of subretinal air to displace submacular hemorrhage. Patients can expect care from a surgeon who has pioneered many procedures and continues to lead global studies to improve treatment for complex retinal conditions.

Dr. Mahmoud serves as Professor of Ophthalmology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and Director of the Vitreoretinal Fellowship Training Program at Associated Retinal Consultants. He has extensive experience from his time at Duke Eye Center and Kresge Eye Institute, and he remains actively involved in research and education. He is fluent in English, Arabic, and French, ensuring effective communication with a diverse patient population.

Patients visiting the Royal Oak office can expect a thorough evaluation of their retinal health and access to the latest treatment options, including advanced vitreoretinal surgery.
