About Me
Dr. Stephanie Engelhard is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery. She graduated with honors in European History from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia. Her training includes an internship in Tucson, Arizona, followed by ophthalmology residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she received the Distinguished Housestaff Award and served as Chief Resident. She completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the USC Roski Eye Institute and Retina Vitreous Associates Medical Group, where she was Chief Fellow and a recipient of the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship.
Dr. Engelhard is an active researcher with more than two dozen peer-reviewed publications in journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology, Retina, and Cornea. She has presented her work at national meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Before pursuing medicine, she studied post-War East German history and conducted archival research in Europe with multiple fellowships. An avid traveler who has visited nearly forty countries, she enjoys long walks and old movies with her husband. Dr. Engelhard is proud to call Jackson, Tennessee her home and is dedicated to providing expert retinal care to the patients of West Tennessee.
