Meet Dr. Sharmila Segar
About Me
Dr. Sharmila Segar is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in pediatric ophthalmology. She completed her medical education at the Medical College of Georgia and undertook a transitional year internship at Sinai-Grace Hospital during the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her residency in ophthalmology was at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University, where she developed her passion for providing eye care to children.
Dr. Segar further honed her skills through a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Indiana University, learning from seasoned experts in the field. Her clinical interests include pediatric cataracts, pediatric glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, and both pediatric and adult strabismus. She is also committed to patient advocacy, ensuring her patients' voices are heard.
In her practice, Dr. Segar believes that caring for patients' eyes is a significant privilege and responsibility. She strives to be truly present with every patient and family, building relationships based on honesty and open communication about care options. Whether prescribing eyeglasses for children or performing delicate surgeries, she takes delivering the best possible care very seriously. Fluent in English and Spanish, she connects with a diverse range of patients and their families.
