About Me
Dr. Sally L. Baxter is a board-certified ophthalmologist and clinical informaticist who cares for adults with a wide range of eye conditions while leading innovations at the intersection of vision care and data science. An Associate Professor and Division Chief for Ophthalmology Informatics and Data Science at UC San Diego, she integrates comprehensive clinical care with research in big data, artificial intelligence, and digital health. Dr. Baxter trained at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed her internship, ophthalmology residency (Chief Resident), and a fellowship in biomedical informatics at UC San Diego. Earlier, she earned a Marshall Scholarship to complete an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and graduated summa cum laude from Duke University. Patients appreciate her collaborative approach, clear communication, and commitment to using technology to improve access and outcomes—especially for underserved communities. In clinic, she offers individualized treatment plans grounded in evidence and enhanced by informatics tools designed to make care safer, more efficient, and more equitable.
