Dr. Richard Stiverson is a refractive cataract surgery specialist with extensive experience in complex cataract and lens implant procedures. He has performed over 45,000 cataract surgeries, including more same-day bilateral surgeries than any other surgeon in the United States. His clinical focus includes high-risk cataract surgery, post-refractive cataract surgery, advanced technology intraocular lenses (IOLs), surgical treatment of astigmatism, and clear lens exchange.
Dr. Stiverson completed his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and his residency training at the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology. He has been a pioneer in the field, being among the first to insert modern intraocular lenses using ultrasonic removal and to perform cataract surgery with minimal sedation. Dr. Stiverson is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, where he served on the Cataract Committee and currently judges the annual scientific poster competition.
