About Me
Dr. Poorav Patel is a board-certified ophthalmologist whose broad area of focus includes glaucoma, medical retinal conditions, clinical research, cataracts, and general ophthalmology. A Southern Oregon native, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, San Diego, then earned a Master of Health Science in Genetic Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He returned to Oregon to finish his medical degree at Oregon Health & Science University.
Dr. Patel completed his residency at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco and served as Chief Resident at CPMC and at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. He also traveled to the world-renowned Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India, to learn high-volume surgical techniques.
Passionate about community outreach, Dr. Patel previously served as the director of the Community OutReach Effort (CORE) in San Diego. He has volunteered with Students Teaching and Reaching Students (STARS) in Baltimore and worked with the Casey Eye Van in Portland to provide free eye screenings for the uninsured. He also served on the board of directors at Oregon Health & Science University. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, visiting the Southern Oregon coast, and traveling.
