Dr. Melissa Summerfield

Dr. Melissa Summerfield is an ophthalmologist at North Iowa Eye Clinic in Mason City, Iowa. She grew up in Clinton, Iowa, and chose ophthalmology for the opportunity to build long‑term relationships with her patients and to restore vision through surgical and medical care. Dr. Summerfield appreciates the constantly evolving technology in eye care and enjoys continuing to learn new skills to provide the best possible outcomes.

She completed her undergraduate degree at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and earned a master's in psychology from the University of Northern Iowa. Dr. Summerfield received her medical degree from Creighton University and then completed her ophthalmology residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She joined North Iowa Eye Clinic in 2011 and provides comprehensive eye care including treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease, as well as performing cataract and glaucoma surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Summerfield enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, watching her kids play soccer, photography, and exploring the outdoors in North Iowa.
