About Me
Dr. Matthew Caldwell is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in refractive surgery, cornea and external disease, and ocular pathology. He provides comprehensive ophthalmology services, including laser vision correction surgery, cataract surgery, implantable lenses, and corneal transplantation. Dr. Caldwell specializes in advanced laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and SMILE, and is a certified physician trainer who has trained over 130 refractive surgeons.
Dr. Caldwell has extensive experience treating patients with high visual demands, including members of the special forces, pilots, and fellow surgeons. He has been a lead investigator on multiple FDA clinical trials of new laser technology and has authored numerous publications. Dr. Caldwell advocates for the functional benefits of refractive surgery and has personally experienced its impact.
Dr. Caldwell has held leadership roles including former Chairman of the Wilford Hall Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology and Chief of Air Force Ophthalmology. He serves as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Health and an Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University. Dr. Caldwell has led humanitarian missions in Central America and brings extensive experience in refractive and corneal surgery to his practice.
