Meet Dr. Mae Peterseim
About Me
Dr. Peterseim is a pediatric ophthalmologist at the Medical University of South Carolina who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions in children and adults with strabismus (eye misalignment). She has a particular interest in vision screening for young children and works to improve access to eye care both locally and internationally. Dr. Peterseim is actively involved in community outreach to promote proper vision screening for preschool and early school-aged children, aiming to detect and treat vision problems early. She also collaborates on research related to hereditary retinal diseases and has worked to enhance eye care services in underserved regions abroad.
Dr. Peterseim holds the Bruce Pratt Endowed Chair for International Ophthalmology and is a professor at the Storm Eye Institute. Her clinical practice encompasses pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, with a dedication to comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages.
