About Me
Dr. Louis K. Chang is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with Honors and Distinction. Dr. Chang then earned his MD and PhD degrees from Washington University Medical School through the Medical Scientist Training Program, with doctoral research on cell death in nervous system diseases.
Dr. Chang completed his ophthalmology residency at UCLA / Jules Stein Eye Institute, receiving awards for ophthalmic knowledge and Excellence in Ophthalmic Surgery. He performed a fellowship in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at Columbia University, where he received the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship and the Ronald G. Michels Fellowship Foundation award. He joined the faculty at Columbia University as the Helen and Martin Kimmel Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, gaining extensive experience with complex retinal detachments and contributing to clinical and research projects.
Dr. Chang is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has published numerous research articles and book chapters. He is an active member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and was elected to the Retina Society. Outside of medicine, he enjoys cooking, the outdoors, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
