About Me
Dr. Leonard B. Nelson is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology, adult motility, strabismus, and nystagmus. He serves as Co-Director of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Wills Eye Hospital and Director of the Wills Eye Strabismus Center. Dr. Nelson is also an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at Jefferson Medical College.
Dr. Nelson treats a wide range of eye conditions in children and adults, including strabismus (eye misalignment), nystagmus (involuntary eye movement), and adult motility disorders. He performs eye muscle surgery to correct these conditions and is actively involved in clinical research. He currently serves as principal investigator on a national study evaluating the effects of low-dose atropine on the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. Dr. Nelson also served as principal investigator of a major grant study on nystagmus surgery.
