About Me
Dr. Katherine G. Chen is a cornea, refractive, and anterior segment specialist committed to helping patients see—and feel—their best. A Bay Area native, she graduated with honors in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and earned a Master of Science in Nutrition at Columbia University. She received her MD from the University of California, Irvine, completed ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, and returned to UC Irvine’s Gavin Herbert Eye Institute for fellowship training in cornea, refractive, and anterior segment surgery.Dr. Chen cares for the full range of corneal and ocular surface conditions and offers advanced surgical options tailored to each patient’s goals. Her subspecialty training includes corneal transplantation (PKP, DSAEK, and DMEK), complex anterior segment reconstruction, and refractive cataract surgery. She values shared decision-making and clear education so patients understand their diagnosis, options, and recovery every step of the way.
