About Me
Dr. Kapil Kapoor is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in vitreoretinal surgery, focusing on conditions of the retina and vitreous. He completed his medical education at The Ohio State University and then pursued his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he served as Co-Chief Resident. To further refine his expertise, Dr. Kapoor undertook a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also embraced the clinic's patient-centered, compassionate care philosophy.
With over a decade of experience, Dr. Kapoor is a progressive leader in eye care and is actively involved in ophthalmology research. He co-founded and serves as President of the Wagner Kapoor Research Institute, which has conducted over 75 clinical trials, often providing sight-saving treatments that are not widely available in the region. Dr. Kapoor holds an academic appointment as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Chair of Retina at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has also served as President of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and volunteers at the Lions Eye Clinic to provide free eye care to those in need.
In his practice, Dr. Kapoor treats a wide range of retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, retinal vascular diseases, ocular oncology, and uveitis. He is also involved in clinical research trials, offering patients access to the latest advancements in retinal care.
