About Me
Dr. J. Mark Engel is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist with subspecialty training from Northwestern University and The Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He cares for children with a wide range of eye conditions, including strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), nasolacrimal duct obstruction (blocked tear ducts), and other pediatric vision problems. As Chief of the Section of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and an attending physician at several hospitals, Dr. Engel brings extensive experience to his young patients.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Engel is a Clinical Associate Professor in Ophthalmology and Pediatrics. He has been recognized for his teaching excellence with the Ruth Steinman pediatric teaching award and the volunteer teacher of the year award. He also participates in international medical missions with Healing the Children, providing eye care to children abroad.
Dr. Engel has contributed to ophthalmic literature, pioneering techniques in adjustable sutures and nasolacrimal duct obstruction, and has presented his research at major ophthalmology conferences.
