About Me
Dr. John A. Flatter provides comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery at the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin. He welcomes new patients for preventive care and surgical consultations, and is known for a calm, down-to-earth style that helps people feel comfortable discussing their vision goals. In the operating room and clinic, he focuses on clear communication and practical guidance so patients understand their choices—from standard lens implants to advanced options.
Dr. Flatter earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, completed an internship at St. Joseph’s in Milwaukee, and finished ophthalmology residency at the Penn State Eye Center. Earlier, he studied biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of California. He has participated in service work with World Blindness Outreach, caring for patients with cataract and corneal disease in the Dominican Republic. Since joining Eye Clinic of Wisconsin in 2019, he has enjoyed helping north-central Wisconsin families protect and restore their sight with individualized care and modern cataract techniques.
