About Me
Dr. James W. Dooner is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. He earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, including a research fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Dooner treats a wide range of vitreoretinal conditions such as macular holes, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, ocular trauma, and macular degeneration. He has also served as principal investigator for clinical research trials exploring new surgical and pharmacological treatments for vitreoretinal diseases.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Dooner contributes to the community through educational seminars and has lectured on vitreoretinal care internationally, including in China and Zimbabwe. He has been recognized as one of Austin's Super Doctors for the past ten years. He is a past president of the Austin Ophthalmological Society and holds memberships in several professional organizations.
