About Me
Dr. Jaffer Naqvi is a neuro-ophthalmology fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa. He cares for patients whose vision is affected by neurologic and systemic disease, working closely with other specialists to evaluate symptoms such as vision loss, visual field changes, and optic nerve abnormalities. Dr. Naqvi has a particular interest in idiopathic intracranial hypertension, papilledema, and related optic nerve disorders, and he integrates both clinical examination and advanced imaging when assessing these complex conditions.
Dr. Naqvi earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine and completed an ophthalmology residency at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. He then moved to Iowa to pursue subspecialty training in neuro-ophthalmology. His research includes work on deep learning approaches to distinguish papilledema from pseudopapilledema and a 2025 review of acetazolamide in the treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Through his fellowship, he is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-informed care and to clearly explaining diagnoses and treatment options to patients and their families.
