About Me
Dr. Irene Gottlob is an ophthalmologist with internationally recognized expertise in pediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology. She trained at the University of Vienna, where she also completed residencies in medicine and ophthalmology and earned the Habilitation (Univ Doz) before advanced clinical fellowships at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Her clinical work centers on the diagnosis and management of nystagmus, strabismus and ocular motility disorders, amblyopia, and optic nerve conditions across the lifespan. She has led multidisciplinary clinics and pioneered the use of hand-held OCT to evaluate retinal and optic nerve structure in infants and young children who cannot cooperate with standard imaging. Dr. Gottlob has authored hundreds of publications and served on editorial boards, and she brings that depth of scholarship to each visit—explaining findings clearly and aligning treatment with a child’s developmental needs and a family’s goals. Patients and families value her thoughtful, evidence-based care and her commitment to functional, real-world visual outcomes.
