Dr. Gordon A. Byrnes is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon who helps patients navigate their diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Byrnes treats a variety of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, uveitis, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments, and performs vitreoretinal surgery.
With a background in clinical research, Dr. Byrnes has contributed to studies on macular degeneration and uveitis at the National Institutes of Health and was the principal investigator for the Ozurdex implant. He also serves as a surgical instructor for The Retina Group of Washington's Retinal Surgery Fellowship program, drawing on his experience as a former residency program director at the National Naval Medical Center.
