About Me
Dr. Edward Chaum is a professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. With over 25 years of clinical and research expertise, he focuses on retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment. Dr. Chaum also specializes in gene therapy for retinal diseases, working to translate engineering concepts into clinical care. He leads a research laboratory supported by federal grants, investigating the molecular genetics and diagnostics of retinal disease and developing novel surgical biomaterials.
His work has been recognized with national awards for technological innovation. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chaum is involved in clinical trials for eye disease and collaborates on multidisciplinary research projects. He holds the Margy Ann and J. Donald M. Gass Chair in Ophthalmology.
