Dr. Avni Finn

Dr. Nicolaas P. DeRuyter is a vitreoretinal surgeon with interests in advanced imaging and modern techniques for complex retinal disease. He cares for patients with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusions, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and retinal detachments, and also manages challenging lens-related problems. Dr. DeRuyter has a special interest in pediatric vitreoretinal conditions, including retinopathy of prematurity and inherited disorders, and works closely with families to guide timely care. Originally from the Yakima Valley, Dr. DeRuyter completed medical school at the University of Washington, ophthalmology residency at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute—where he served as chief resident—and a surgical retina fellowship at Vanderbilt. He is board-certified and excited to serve patients across Pacific Northwest Retina’s Seattle-area locations with clear explanations, coordinated care, and treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

Dr. Samantha Feldman is a pediatric ophthalmologist who cares for children of all ages as well as adults with strabismus. She focuses on making visits comfortable and clear for families, explaining findings in plain language and partnering with parents on treatment plans that fit a child's daily life. In the exam room, she uses kid-friendly techniques to assess vision, eye alignment, and visual development, and offers both non-surgical and surgical options when appropriate. Dr. Feldman trained in ophthalmology at MedStar Georgetown/Washington Hospital Center and completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Vanderbilt, building strong experience in the full spectrum of pediatric conditions—from amblyopia and crossed eyes to pediatric cataracts and tear duct obstruction. She also treats adult eye misalignment and diplopia. Patients appreciate her calm, encouraging style and the time she spends answering questions so families leave knowing what to expect and how to support healthy vision at home and at school.

Dr. Jeffrey J. Mattingly is a cataract and glaucoma surgeon at Vanderbilt Eye Institute. He partners with patients to create practical, personalized plans--ranging from optimized drops and laser treatments to advanced cataract surgery and MIGS--to protect vision and maintain day-to-day independence. In the operating room, he offers traditional and laser-assisted cataract surgery with a range of intraocular lens options, and he performs laser and incisional procedures for glaucoma when indicated. Dr. Mattingly completed medical school and residency training before a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Patients appreciate his clear explanations, attention to detail, and collaborative style. Whether evaluating a new glaucoma suspect, fine-tuning pressures after surgery, or planning cataract surgery to improve clarity, he focuses on outcomes that matter to patients and their families.
