Dr. David Guyer

David Guyer, MD, is a distinguished ophthalmologist recognized for his leadership in academic medicine and biopharmaceutical innovation. He served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at New York University School of Medicine, where he contributed to patient care and education.

Dr. Guyer co-founded and served as CEO and Director at Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, overseeing the development and commercialization of Macugen®, the first FDA-approved anti-VEGF treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration. This breakthrough therapy has significantly improved outcomes for patients with this retinal disease.

He is also the CEO and Chairman of Ophthotech Corporation, where he led substantial financing efforts to advance ophthalmology innovations. His work has been honored with the 2009 OIS Innovator Award, highlighting his impact on the field.
