About Me
Dr. David A. Chesnutt is a board-certified ophthalmologist who returned to his native Eastern North Carolina to practice at Waynesborough Ophthalmology. A graduate of the UNC School of Medicine, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at UNC and pursued fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology at Duke University Eye Center and oculoplastic and orbital surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. His extensive experience spans all aspects of ophthalmologic care.
Dr. Chesnutt has a special interest in oculoplastic surgery, adult strabismus, eyelid malposition, eyelid skin cancers, tearing, thyroid eye disease, orbital tumors, and neuro-ophthalmology. He strives to develop a unique plan of care for each patient based on individual needs. Prior to returning to private practice, he served as an ophthalmology faculty member at Duke Eye Center and the University of North Carolina, where he trained the next generation of ophthalmologists and received teaching accolades.
Dedicated to service, Dr. Chesnutt continues to contribute to the field as a reviewer for Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and remains active in clinical research. He is honored to bring specialized services to the people of Eastern North Carolina that were previously available only at academic centers.
