About Me

Dr. Carlos Ernesto Mendoza Santiesteban is a neuro-ophthalmologist who cares for both adults and children with disorders at the intersection of the brain, optic nerve, and retina. His clinical expertise spans hereditary and mitochondrial optic neuropathies, toxic-nutritional optic neuropathy, complex optic nerve disease, and visual complications of systemic or neurologic conditions. He also evaluates patients on medications that may affect the retina and optic nerve, and uses advanced imaging and visual electrophysiology to guide treatment and long-term monitoring. Dr. Mendoza Santiesteban partners closely with neurology, pediatrics, and retina colleagues so patients receive coordinated, comprehensive care. He is active in research exploring retinal biomarkers of neurological disease and the role of optical coherence tomography and electrophysiology in diagnosis and follow-up. Patients appreciate his thorough explanations and practical guidance, from the first visit through testing, therapy, and visual rehabilitation when needed.
