About Me
Dr. Barry J. Kaufman is a board-certified ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care at Briggs Ophthalmology in Dyer, Indiana. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Southern California and earned his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. His ophthalmology training included an internship and residency at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital and St. James Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Illinois at Chicago Eye Center.
Dr. Kaufman focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye, ocular surface healing disorders, corneal infections, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease. He takes a thorough approach to patient care, discussing disease processes clearly to help patients make informed treatment decisions. He considers how underlying systemic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid imbalance, and allergies may affect eye health and treatment success.
In addition to general ophthalmology services, Dr. Kaufman offers specialized treatments including autologous serum drops for advanced dry eye and sutureless amniotic membrane grafting for infections and chemical burns. He is one of the few practitioners in the area providing these advanced techniques.
