Dr. Armin Afshar

Dr. Armin Afshar is an ophthalmologist who focuses on eye tumors and diseases of the retina and vitreous. He cares for adults and children, providing compassionate, evidence-based treatment and taking time to explain diagnoses and options in clear language. Patients see him for both complex tumors and related retinal conditions, and they value his calm, thoughtful approach throughout diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up.

His expertise includes ocular surface tumors of the conjunctiva and cornea as well as intraocular tumors involving the iris, ciliary body, choroid, retina, vitreous, and optic nerve. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Afshar’s research explores the genetics of uveal melanoma and improving therapies for retinoblastoma. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago and subspecialty fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular oncology at UCSF, where he also earned a master’s degree in epidemiology and biostatistics. He welcomes referrals for second opinions and collaborative care.
