About Me
Dr. Alan L. Benedict is a retired ophthalmologist who practiced in the Marietta, Georgia area. He was born in Illinois and raised in southwest Florida. Dr. Benedict attended Loyola University in New Orleans on an academic scholarship and graduated Cum Laude in 1981. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1985. Dr. Benedict completed an internship in Internal Medicine at North Carolina Baptist Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University Eye Center, where he served as chief resident. He entered general ophthalmology practice in 1989 and attained Board Certification in Ophthalmology in 1991. Dr. Benedict also completed advanced training in LASIK surgery at the Emory Vision Correction Center.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Benedict developed special expertise in cataract surgery and refractive surgery, with the goal of reducing patients' dependence on glasses or contact lenses. He began performing LASIK in 1995 and was the first Cobb County-based doctor to implant the implantable collamer lens (ICL) for a wider range of refractive errors. He also taught his cataract surgery technique to other ophthalmologists. Dr. Benedict treated various ocular diseases and helped many patients achieve better vision during his years of practice.
