Dr. Ahsan Hussain

Dr. Konstantin Astafurov is a fellowship-trained retina specialist at Monmouth Retina. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for diseases of the macula, retina, and vitreous. Dr. Astafurov completed a medical retina fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and a two-year surgical retina fellowship at NJRetina/Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School after ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and internship at Maimonides Medical Center. He earned both his MD and PhD at SUNY Downstate, where his doctoral work explored inflammation’s effects on the retina and optic nerve. Patients appreciate his combination of scientific rigor and practical, patient-first communication. He collaborates closely with referring providers to coordinate timely treatment and long-term follow-up that protects vision.

Dr. Justin Arnett is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous with a steady, detail-oriented approach. He explains findings clearly, outlines options, and works with patients to choose a plan that protects central and peripheral vision over the long term. His clinical interests include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, and complex macular disorders. Dr. Arnett earned a Bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology from Harvard University, a Master of Translational Medicine from UC Berkeley and UCSF, and a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed ophthalmology residency at the Shiley Eye Institute, UC San Diego, where he is also completing a clinical fellowship in Retina & Vitreous. His research spans innovative devices, brain-computer interfaces, and nanoparticle-based therapeutics, with ongoing work focused on improving retinal outcomes. Patients can expect evidence-based care, clear communication, and close collaboration with their primary eye doctors.

Dr. Kush Patel is a vitreoretinal surgeon at Virginia Retina Specialists who provides comprehensive care for diseases of the retina and vitreous. He manages common and complex conditions and offers both office-based treatments and advanced retinal surgery. His clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and secondary intraocular lens cases. A Northern Virginia native, Dr. Patel graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University and earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, serving as chief resident and being recognized as the Outstanding Graduate. He then pursued a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at NJRetina in New Brunswick, New Jersey, gaining extensive experience with complex surgical cases and participating in multicenter clinical trials. Dr. Patel is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is excited to care for the community where he grew up.
