Meet Dr. Vlad Mihai Matei

Dr. Vlad M. Matei is a vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes for their retinal disease. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for conditions such as retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and other vascular disorders. Patients often remark on his thorough explanations and attention to detail.Dr. Matei graduated magna cum laude from Rice University and completed his MD at UT Southwestern Medical School. He finished an internal medicine residency before pursuing ophthalmology residency and a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. His professional interests include diagnostic challenges, refinement of surgical technique, and the systemic links to ocular disease. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and educational articles and enjoys teaching and lecturing for eye-care professionals. Outside of work, he spends time with his family and enjoys reading and programming.
