Dr. Ball earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Kentucky, where he served as chief resident, followed by a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine/Cullen Eye Institute.
