Dr. Steven Howell

Dr. Howell is an ophthalmologist at Dr. Black's Eye Associates who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus (eye muscle disorders) for both children and adults. He provides care for children with vision problems, including eye muscle surgery, and treats adult strabismus as well. Dr. Howell is known for his patient, compassionate approach, especially when caring for anxious children and their families. He takes the time to help parents understand their child's condition and treatment options, making him a staff favorite.

Dr. Howell completed his medical training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, followed by an internship, residency in ophthalmology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Vanderbilt University. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky, teaching future ophthalmologists. Outside of practice, Dr. Howell has served on boards supporting visually impaired preschool services and arts education.
