Meet Dr. Shelby Marie Potkin

Dr. Shelby Potkin is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides full-scope medical and surgical eye care for adults in northern Minnesota. She offers routine and problem-focused exams, manages chronic conditions like diabetes and glaucoma, and performs procedures ranging from in-office laser treatments to sutureless cataract surgery. Patients describe her approach as collaborative and educational—she takes time to explain findings, discuss options, and create practical plans that fit each person’s goals and lifestyle. Dr. Potkin completed ophthalmology residency training at Tulane University after earning her medical degree from Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Her interests include improving access to care and quality outcomes for patients in rural communities, and she enjoys connecting care across primary and specialty services to make the experience smoother for patients. Outside the clinic and operating room, she stays active in research and community activities and enjoys hiking, knitting, and time with her dog.
