About Me
Dr. Samyuktha Melachuri, known as Sami, is a third-year ophthalmology resident at the University of Pittsburgh. Born in Minneapolis, she developed a passion for medicine early, recognizing disparities in healthcare access. Through mentorship and organizing free medical camps for refugees and homeless populations, she saw the transformative power of medicine.
Her journey led her to Pittsburgh, where she focuses on patient advocacy, policy, and research to improve healthcare outcomes. Initially interested in other surgical specialties, she found her calling in ophthalmology after volunteering with a mobile free eye clinic. Dr. Melachuri is dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care and performing intricate ocular surgeries for the community. As a resident, she is training in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of eye conditions, with a focus on surgical and medical interventions to preserve and restore vision.
