Dr. Robert Beardsley grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina and earned his undergraduate degree in marine biology from Duke University. After working as a scuba instructor in Belize and a forest ranger in Colorado, he pursued a career in ophthalmology. He completed his medical degree with honors at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by a residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Dr. Beardsley further specialized through fellowships in uveitis at Oregon Health and Science University and in vitreo-retinal surgery at the University of Minnesota.
He specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous, and choroid, including conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments. Dr. Beardsley has extensive experience in managing ocular inflammatory diseases such as uveitis and infectious retinitis. He is actively involved in research, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and participation in clinical trials for novel uveitis therapies. Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota, mentoring residents and medical students.
Dr. Beardsley is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Surgeons, and the American Uveitis Society. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and skiing with his family.
