About Me

Pablo Altschwager Kreft, MD, is an ophthalmologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and an Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. He focuses on pediatric medical retina — caring for infants, children, and young adults with inherited and acquired retinal conditions. Dr. Altschwager Kreft sees children with inherited retinal disorders such as Leber congenital amaurosis and Stargardt disease, as well as pediatric diabetic and sickle cell–related retinopathy. He is fluent in English and Spanish and strives to make complex information understandable for families.

As part of Boston Children’s Pediatric Medical Retina Service, he works with a multidisciplinary team that provides advanced diagnostic testing (including ERG, mfERG, sVEP, and dark-adapted threshold testing), genetic evaluation, and low-vision support. The program also offers emerging therapies — including gene therapy such as Luxturna for select RPE65-associated disease — and access to clinical trials. Dr. Altschwager Kreft completed medical school and ophthalmology training at Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile, followed by fellowship training in Pediatric Medical Retina at Harvard Medical School.
