About Me
Lanning Kline, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in neuro-ophthalmology at the Shiley Eye Institute and Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at UC San Diego. He focuses on diagnosing and managing complex eye conditions related to the nervous system, such as optic nerve diseases, double vision, pupillary disorders, demyelinating diseases, and visual abnormalities that accompany stroke. Patients with these conditions can expect comprehensive evaluation and care tailored to their specific neuro-ophthalmic needs.
Dr. Kline's expertise is built on a strong educational foundation, having attended medical school at Duke University and completed his ophthalmology residency at McGill University in Montreal. He further specialized through a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. His background includes serving as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine for over a decade.
He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Kline has contributed significantly to the field with over 125 peer-reviewed publications and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology. His dedication is recognized by awards such as the Life Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
