About Me

Dr. Kathleen Duerksen is a fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic surgeon specializing in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, orbits, and tear ducts. During a consultation, her goal is to listen and examine carefully and then fully explain the various treatment options to provide people with the information they need to choose the care that is right for them. Her practice includes treating patients with 'baggy' and wrinkled eyelids, necks, and faces, and she is experienced in reconstructive plastic surgery after skin cancer removals, correcting mal-positioned eyelids resulting from aging or trauma, and diagnosing and treating problems with excessive tearing.

In addition to surgery, she utilizes a variety of advanced techniques to improve facial wrinkles and skin texture. She has been using Botox in her practice since 1988 to treat eyelid and facial wrinkles and spasms, and she works with FDA-approved wrinkle fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Voluma, which can last from six months to two years. She also performs tumescent body liposuction as an outpatient procedure, which allows for smoother and more symmetrical results with minimal downtime. For skin care, she offers products from ZO Skin Health, Obagi, and Nia24 to correct damage at the cellular level.

Dr. Duerksen is dedicated to academic teaching and is currently a member of the clinical faculty of the University of Arizona, Department of Ophthalmology, where she works with residents in surgery and lectures on plastic surgery topics. She enjoys both cosmetic and reconstructive work, ensuring her patients are fully informed and comfortable with their chosen path to treatment. In her personal life, she grew up in Iowa City, plays the violin in a community orchestra, and enjoys outdoor activities like skiing, biking, and hiking with her husband.
