About Me

David Doobin, MD, PhD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon and retina specialist at NJRetina. He completed a combined MD/PhD at Columbia University, where his research explored the cell biology of neocortical and retinal development and contributed to early insights on Zika virus and microcephaly. He remained at Columbia’s Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute for ophthalmology residency, serving as chief resident, and then completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Ophthalmology. Dr. Doobin has been recognized with multiple honors, including the Heed Foundation Fellowship Award.

Dr. Doobin treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retinal disease and is committed to evidence-based, compassionate care. He has authored publications in leading journals such as Nature Communications, PNAS, and Ophthalmology and speaks regularly at regional, national, and international meetings. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Outside of clinic, he enjoys endurance sports and the arts, which he credits with keeping him grounded and attentive to the details that matter most to patients.
