About Me
Christopher J. Hwang, MD, MPH, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the University of North Carolina. As associate residency program director, he cares for adults and children with functional and cosmetic concerns of the eyelids, orbit, and lacrimal system, offering a full range of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. Dr. Hwang completed medical school and a Master of Public Health at UNC, then returned for ophthalmology residency, serving as chief resident. He subsequently completed a two-year ASOPRS fellowship in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota. His clinical interests include thyroid eye disease, eyelid and brow surgery, orbital and tear-duct surgery, Mohs reconstruction, and non-surgical facial rejuvenation with injectables. He emphasizes results that balance form and function, with personalized plans that prioritize safety, communication, and long-term eye health.
