Dr. Sanja Cypen

Dr. Sanja Cypen is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in oculofacial plastic, reconstructive and orbital surgery. She is originally from Bosnia & Herzegovina and immigrated to the United States in 1992. An avid classical pianist, Dr. Cypen earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of Florida. She completed medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, followed by ophthalmology residency at Duke University. She was then selected for a highly competitive ASOPRS-accredited fellowship in oculofacial plastic, reconstructive and orbital surgery at the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Cypen believes in taking an individualized approach to each patient to maximize satisfaction. She is passionate about all aspects of oculofacial surgery, including cosmetic and functional surgeries and minimally invasive procedures. She has extensive experience in eyelid and midface reconstruction, including after trauma, skin cancer removals and prior surgeries. She is also an experienced orbital surgeon, having performed many orbital decompressions, tumor removals and fracture repairs. She remains active in education and holds a volunteer faculty position at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

In her spare time, Dr. Cypen loves to be outdoors with her husband and two children. She enjoys traveling and playing tennis and is an enthusiastic fan of Miami’s professional sports teams. She has adopted South Florida as her home and feels privileged to provide care to the community.
