Dr. Ryan Gabbard

Dr. Ryan Gabbard is an ophthalmologist and oculoplastics fellow who cares for patients with eyelid, orbital and periocular problems. Raised in Dayton, Ohio, he graduated summa cum laude from Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and went on to earn both his master’s degree in biomedical engineering and his medical degree from Wright State.

During his early training he collaborated with the U.S. Air Force on research using eye-tracking technology to study cognitive workload, which sparked his interest in the interface between vision, performance and ocular surgery. Dr. Gabbard completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of South Carolina and is pursuing subspecialty training in oculoplastic surgery.

His clinical interests include orbital trauma, reconstructive and aesthetic eyelid surgery and periocular oncology. He strives to combine meticulous surgical technique with compassionate communication so patients feel informed and supported before and after surgery.
