About Me
Dr. Rakesh Patel is a board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, eyebrows, tear ducts, and eye socket. His focus is rejuvenation of the eyes, aiming to achieve youthful, elegant results that look natural without appearing overdone or unnatural. He also performs functional surgeries of the tear duct and eye socket, always ensuring that recommended procedures do not compromise the health of the eyes.
Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate education at Duke University and earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a one-year internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, followed by a three-year residency in Ophthalmology at Montefiore Medical Center of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. He further subspecialized with a rigorous two-year fellowship in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, which is approved by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).
After training, Dr. Patel returned to South Carolina and served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina/Prisma Health Hospital in Columbia. With over 10 years of experience limited to eyelid plastic surgery, he now practices in the Charleston area at Charleston Oculofacial Plastic Surgery in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, providing comprehensive oculofacial care.
