About Me
Dr. Milica Margeta is a clinician-scientist and ophthalmologist who cares for people with moderate, advanced, and complex glaucoma as part of the Mass Eye and Ear Glaucoma Service. She specializes in medical and surgical management to slow disease progression, protect vision, and tailor treatments including medications, laser options, and surgery.
Her research is dedicated to developing neuroprotective strategies for glaucoma, focusing on retinal inflammation and microglia signaling to preserve the neurons connecting the eye to the brain. This work aims to pave the way for new treatments that can protect vision despite elevated eye pressure. Dr. Margeta has been recognized with awards like the Robert Machemer Resident Research Award and the Duke Ocular Innovation Award for her innovative approaches to glaucoma drainage device surgery in children.
Dr. Margeta completed her PhD in Neuroscience at Stanford University and earned her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. She trained in ophthalmology at Duke University, including a glaucoma fellowship, equipping her with advanced skills in eye care.
