About Me
Dr. Edmond Fitzgibbon is a neuro-ophthalmologist with the National Eye Institute’s Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research. He specializes in eye movement problems in patients with neurodegenerative disease and follows patients with neurofibromatosis types 1 and 2 as well as fibrous dysplasia, collaborating across NIH to support care for these complex conditions.
He has been with the National Eye Institute since 1984, beginning as a fellow, and has long combined clinical care with research. His work uses eye-movement studies as a biomarker to help diagnose and stage neurodegenerative disease, aiming to improve understanding of how these conditions affect vision over time.
Dr. Fitzgibbon earned a physics degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed an ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic and additional vitreoretinal fellowship training.
