Meet Dr. Courtland M Schmidt

Courtland M. Schmidt Jr., MD is a glaucoma specialist at Wills Eye Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. He provides comprehensive care for patients with glaucoma and is actively involved in clinical research, participating in all Wills Glaucoma Service clinical trials with a particular focus on surgical outcomes.

Dr. Schmidt completed his undergraduate degree at Yale College and earned his medical degree with honors from Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the AOA honor society. He then completed an internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, followed by an ophthalmology residency and a glaucoma fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Schmidt is dedicated to teaching the next generation of eye care professionals, instructing residents and fellows on the Glaucoma Service. He has co-authored numerous publications and is a member of the American Glaucoma Society. He has been recognized as one of the "Best Doctors in America."
