About Me
Dr. Anthony Arnold is the Director of the UCLA Optic Neuropathy Center and a neuro-ophthalmologist with a research focus on ischemic and inflammatory optic neuropathies. He is board certified in ophthalmology and completed his fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at UCLA. With over 100 research publications, he is a leading expert in conditions affecting the optic nerve and the connection between the eye and the brain.
Dr. Arnold served as the UCLA ophthalmology residency program director from 1994 to 2017 and currently holds the role of Vice Chair for Education in the department. His leadership extends to national organizations, including serving as President of the North American NeuroOphthalmology Society and Chair of the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Ophthalmology. He is dedicated to advancing the field through education and has received multiple teaching awards.
Patients seek Dr. Arnold for complex neuro-ophthalmic conditions such as ischemic optic neuropathy, Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, and optic disc melanocytoma. His clinical expertise also includes evaluating papilledema, pseudopapilledema, and migraine-related visual changes.
