Meet Dr. John Ryan Brewer

Dr. J. Ryan Brewer is a board-certified ophthalmologist and one of Texas’s most trusted and experienced LASIK surgeons, with over 30,000 procedures performed. A former U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon and surgical professor, he brings elite military LASIK training, award-winning education, and a passion for life-changing vision correction to patients across Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas.

Dr. Brewer serves as Medical Director of LasikPlus Austin and LasikPlus San Antonio and has previously served as Department Chief of Ophthalmology at Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center, STVHCS, and Keesler Medical Center. He is a core faculty member and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he trains resident doctors in eye surgery. In 2019, he received UT Health’s Excellence in Teaching Award, and in 2020, the Business Journal selected him as a 40 Under 40 Business Leaders honoree.

His LASIK training began in the Air Force, completing his residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). He served as an active duty Flight Surgeon, flying in high-performance fighter jets, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2017 as the U.S. Military and NATO’s lone Eye Surgeon in theatre. Dr. Brewer continues to give lectures to eye care professionals and enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the Texas Hill Country.
