Born and raised in eastern Turkey, he trained in Istanbul after medical school and went on to serve as a comprehensive ophthalmologist, performing thousands of vision-restoring procedures. He later refined his surgical skillset in a vitreoretinal department and has continued to expand his expertise through advanced subspecialty training. In 2024, Dr. Cengiz completed a fellowship in Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery at Albany Medical College/Cornea Consultants of Albany. He now continues his training as a fellow at the Charles Retina Institute, where he contributes to high-volume, complex retinal care while maintaining a compassionate, team-based style. Dr. Cengiz is also a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) and has volunteered abroad providing cataract surgery in resource-limited settings.
